Down syndrome, also termed as trisomy 21, is a genetic disorder caused by the presence of third copy of chromosome 21. People suffering from this disease have retardation in growth, less thinking ability, and characteristic facial features. It is believed that the extra chromosome occurs by chance and is not affected by environmental factors.
