Answer to Problem 2UA
Answer:
Explanation of Solution
Given info:
The study based on the pharmaceutical company has applied for the approval to market a new arthritis medication.
Justification:
Blind:
Blinding is the process in which either the experimenter or the subjects or both of them do not have any knowledge about the treatment administered to them.
Each subject in the study must be provided in random order with one group of ‘Medication” and one group of ‘Placebo’. Then the effect of medication on each subject should be noted. In this study, the experimenter does not have the knowledge about which subjects are given to medication and which subjects are given to placebo.
Double blinding:
Double blinding is a phenomenon where both the experimenter who administered the treatment and the subject that receives the treatment would not have any prior knowledge about the treatment given for medication.
The experiment can be conducted by using double blinding. The researcher who is administering the treatments should not have any knowledge for which group which treatment is assigned. Likewise, the participant in the study also should not have any knowledge of which treatment (Medication or Placebo) is given to them.
