Cancer cells are characterized by uncontrolled proliferation of abnormal cells, invasion, metastasis, and antiapoptosis. Cancer cells lack differentiation and maturation into specialized cells. The major treatments are used to prevent or suppress the growth of cancer are chemotherapy, surgery, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, immunotherapy, and biological response modifiers (biotherapy). Drugs, which are used to treat cancer is generally known as chemotherapeutic drugs or antineoplastic drugs. The major adverse effects of chemotherapy are myelosuppression or bone marrow suppression, immune suppression, gastrointestinal distress, cardiovascular toxicities, fatigue, anemia, nausea, vomiting, hair loss, and stomatitis.
