Given data: The metabolic pathway is described with the help of the following statements:
1. L forms either N or M and M forms O.
2. O will form either R or P, R form S and P will form Q.
3. The reaction from L to M is inhibited by O.
4. The reaction from O to R is inhibited by S and from O to P is inhibited by Q.
The inhibition reaction should be drawn with the help of red colored arrows and a minus sign.
Introduction: The cell possesses an ability to regulate the pathways (metabolic) by controlling the activity of various enzymes. This is done by switching off or on the gene which encodes for particular enzymes. There would be occurrences of chemical chaos, if the metabolic pathways of a cell operate simultaneously, so they are operated distinctly.
To determine: Which of the given reactions from the branched metabolic pathway would prevail, if Q and S will be present in higher concentrations.

- A very special property of enzymes is Feedback inhibition. What is feedback inhibition? Draw a hypothetical cyclic pathway where in there are 7 reactions to show feedback inhibition.arrow_forwardWhich of the following is TRUE concerning the induced fit model of enzyme catalysis? * (One correct answer only) A. The active site can be influenced by molecules binding elsewhere on an enzyme B. The initial binding of enzyme and substrate is the most tightly bound conformation C. The induced fit must occur prior to the initial binding of enzyme and substrate in order for the reaction to proceed D. The binding of enzyme and substrate is weakest in the transition statearrow_forwardCreate a Venn-Diagram to compare & contrast CATABOLISM vs ANABOLISM such as its process/mechanism, relation with ATP, reaction type, etc. Moreover, provide at least two (2) specific metabolic pathways as examples for each. You can use coloring pens, crayons, and the like to make your presentation look appealing. Digital drawings are also acceptable.arrow_forward
- Choose only the letter, no explanation needed. Enzyme activity is affected by a variety of factors. What factor causes the enzyme to denature if it becomes extremely high? * Choices: A. Water's Effect B. pH C. Temperature D. Activator's Effect An inhibitor binds to the enzyme's active site, preventing the substrate from binding to it. What conclusions can you make from this situation? * A. No reaction occurred B. Non-competitive inhibition occurred C. Enzyme activity occurred D. Competitive inhibition occurred Each enzyme is very selective when it comes to its substrate. What can you conclude from this statement? * A. Any substrate can bind to the active site. B. Enzymes are used up in the reaction. C. Only a specific substrate can bind to the active site. D. Enzymes break down when not used. Lock : Key :: Active Site : _____________________________ * A. Substrate B. Active Site C. Coenzyme D. Cofactor Enzymes only speed up biological functions, so they are NOT used up in the…arrow_forwardIf you wanted to improve the catalytic efficiency of an enzyme, what changes might you make to the enzyme and why? Consider what factors affect catalysis. You can suggest a change in the environment or a change in the protein itself.arrow_forwardAMP is derived from a reaction involving which of the following? ATP and ADP ADP and ADP NAD and FAD ATP and ATParrow_forward
- Which of the following statements is TRUE in describing the activity of the lactaseenzyme? A. Lactase is converted to glucoseB. One lactase enzyme can catalyze many reactions C. The shape of lactase does not change during the reaction D. Lactase can function effectively at many different pH levelsarrow_forwardThe graph shows the reaction coordinate of an enzymatic reaction of substrate to product a) which number correlates with the overall Keq of the reaction going from S to P? b) which number correlates with the velocity of the reaction WITHOUT enzyme (ie. starting with only substrate)? C) which number correlates with the overall velocity of the reaction WITH SATURATED enzyme D) the initial velocity of this reaction increases by a specific factor in the presence of enzyme. The difference between which two numbers best correlates with this enhancement in velocity? 1) 3 and 1 2) 3and 2 3) 3 and 4 4) 3 and 5 5) 3 and 6arrow_forward“Enzyme increases the rate of a reaction by lowering the activation energy. In doing so, it also changes the equilibrium of that reaction.” Do you agree/disagree with this statement? And why?arrow_forward
- Which of the following is NOT true about metabolic pathways in general? They can be anabolic or catabolic They can be both energy-releasing (exergonic) and energy-requiring (endergonic) They are often made up of a series of chemical reactions They often have multiple different enzymes working in the same pathway Each metabolic pathway is entirely separate and does not interact or connect at all with other metabolic pathwaysarrow_forwardUsing good details, compare and contrast the pairs of different biochemical reactions. Create your own comparing and contrasting map similar to the one below to show your understanding. Phosphorylation vs Hydrolysis Phosphorylation vs Decarboxylation Oxidation vs Reduction.arrow_forwardWhich enzyme would have the greatest catalytic efficiency? a) Km 20 nM; kcat 50 s-1 b) Km 0.04 uM; kcat 50 s-1 c) Km 10 nM; kcat 5 s-1 d) Km 40 nM; kcat 25 s-1arrow_forward
