Facility layout study. Facility layout and material flowpath design are major factors in the productivity analysis of automated manufacturing systems. Facility layout is concerned with the location arrangement of machines and buffers for work-in-process. Flowpath design is concerned with the direction of manufacturing material flows (e.g., unidirectional or bidirectional; Lee, Lei, and Pinedo. Annals of Operations Research, 1997). A manufacturer of printed circuit boards is interested in evaluating two alternative existing layout and flowpath designs. The output of each design was monitored for 8 consecutive working days. The data (shown here) are saved in the file. Design 2 appears to be superior to Design 1. Do you agree? Explain fully.

- Define A Competitive-Hunter Model ?arrow_forwardA quality control engineer studied the relationship between years of experience as a system control engineer and the capacity of the engineer to complete within a given time a complex control design including the debugging of all computer programs and control devices. A group of 25 engineers having widely differing amounts of experience (measured in months of experience) was given the same control design project. The results of the study are given in the following table with y = 1 if the project was successfully completed in the allocated time and y = 0 if the project was not successfully completed. a. Determine whether experience is associated with the probability of completingthe task. b. Compute the probability of successfully completing the task for an engineer having 24 months of experience. Place a 95% confidence interval on your estimate.arrow_forwardA national restaurant chain is composed of 6500 restaurants, each of which is located in close proximity to an interstate highway. The restaurant's business strategy is to serve its core customer base: people traveling on the interstate highway system who are looking for a quality dining experience. Customers generally enjoy the restaurant chain's menu, atmosphere, and consistency from restaurant to restaurant. The company's leadership, located at corporate headquarters, is very interested in the relationship between the cost of a gallon of gasoline and the company's revenue. Specifically, the company is concerned that if gasoline prices rise in the near future, the company's revenue will decline dramatically. The company's research department recently collected data for analysis in order to support leadership's upcoming discussion of whether the company should expand and diversify to locations away from an interstate highway. Annual revenue figures from a random sample of…arrow_forward

A survey by Social Media Examiner reported that 77% of B2B marketers (marketers that focus primarily on attracting businesses) plan to increase their use of LinkedIn, as compared to 54% of B2C marketers (marketers that primarily target consumers). The survey was based on 1,184 B2B marketers and 1,703 B2C marketers. Floyd purchases parts from manufacturers according to the EOQ model and then ships the parts from a regional warehouse direct to its customers. For a particular type of muffler, Floyd's EOQ analysis recommends orders with Q* = 20 to satisfy an annual demand of 180 mufflers. Floyd's has 250 working days per year, and the lead time averages 15 days.Note: Use Appendix B to identify the areas for the standard normal distribution. What is the reorder point if Floyd assumes a constant demand rate? If required, round your answer up to the nearest whole number. r = fill in the blank 1 Suppose that an analysis of Floyd's muffler demand shows that the lead-time demand follows a normal probability distribution with µ = 12 and σ = 2.2. If Floyd's management can tolerate one stock-out per year, what is the revised reorder point? If required, round your answer up to the nearest whole number. r = fill in the blank…arrow_forward

"Traditional Ecological Knowledge is, above all, local knowledge based in people’s relationship to place. It is also holistic, not subject to the segmentation of contemporary science. Knowledge about a specific plant may include understanding its life cycle, its spiritual connections, its relationship to the seasons and with other plants and animals in its ecosystem, as well as its uses and its stories." - Science First Peoples Teacher Resource Guide by First Nations Education Steering Committee To support seasonal food gathering and assess the health of plants and animals, First Peoples closely monitor seasonal changes and climate. Reliable information of weather patterns, ocean currents, and tides is crticial to safely conduct seasonal food gathering along the coast. Currently, there have been increased observations of environmental change, which is of concern to First Peoples and their relationship…arrow_forward
