The features of atlas and axis that differentiates them from other cervical vertebrae.

Concept introduction:

The vertebral column consists of $26$ bones. These bones include sacrum $(1)$, coccyx $(1)$, lumbar vertebrae $(5)$, thoracic vertebrae $(7)$, and cervical vertebrae $(12)$. The cervical vertebrae are present superior to all the vertebrae. These extend inferiorly from the occipital bone to the thorax.
