Eleanor Gibson and her colleagues developed an “the visual cliff experiment”. It is an experiment in which a table has a “shallow” and a “deep” side, and a glass covering the entire table. When an infant crawl on the table and looks down at the deep side, the squares in the design on the floor look smaller than the square on the shallow side, forming a visible sign of depth.
