- Social media is uses the info technology to support the distributing of data between networks of users and it enables people to form group of people related by a similar interest.
- Social media information system is an info-system that supports the distributing of data between networks of users.
- The social media cannot exist without social media information system.
- SMIS consists of three roles. They are:
- Users
- Organizations or companies that choose to support a presence on one or more social media sites.
- Communities
- Group of people with common interest in order to communicate and share ideas.
- Social media providers
- It enables the making of social relationships among people with similar interests or social networks.

- It enables the making of social relationships among people with similar interests or social networks.
- Some of the examples of social media providers are Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, and so on.
Social network:
- Social network is a website that allows the people to share information, ideas, images and videos through the network.
- This type of relationship and sharing is called as social media.
- Social network is also referred as a virtual community or profile site.
