Summary Introduction
To determine:
Why there are many cases of amebic keratitis at present than 100 years ago.
Case summary:
In the given scenario, a man named Tim went swimming along with his contact lens and contacted the amebic keratitis disease. The Acanthamoeba keratitis is a eukaryote that causes this disease. Tim consulted the doctor and he gave an antiseptic solution for the eyes that should be used every 30 minutes. Finally, Tim is recovered from the disease without needing a corneal transplant.

TJ Porter was a 15 year old high school student with a new summer job working with a gardening crew. His main job activity was spreading bark mulch in garden beds. Last August he rapidly developed severe shortness of breath, a persistent cough, and chest pains. On admittance to the hospital, radiological examination revealed large “cotton ball” densities in both of his lungs. Culture of his lung aspirate grew Aspergillus fumigatus. TJ was given IV amphotericin B and assisted mechanical ventilation via a tracheotomy. He slowly improved in the hospital, but also contracted 2 other respiratory infections with Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Strep. faecalis. These infections were treated with appropriate antibiotics.TJ had 4 sisters and 2 brothers. One of his brothers had a perirectal abscess in infancy but otherwise has been well.TJ’s white blood cell count was in the normal range, with ~65% neutrophils, 30% lymphocytes, and ~5% monocytes. Serum IgG and IgM levels were in the normal-to-high…

Bacillus anthracis (Anthrax)
Shape and arrangement of your pathogen
Bacillus shape and Streptobacilli arrangement
Type of flagella, number and correctly named arrangement of the flagella (example: monotrichous)
My pathogen is one of the few in its specie that is not motile. It contains one flagellin gene, however four essential proteins contain point mutations and frameshifts. Therefore, the flagella are nonfunctional and the organism lacks motility; Atrichous.
Capsule or not (If yes, describe what is it made from)
Yes. It is made of poli-y-D-glutamic acid (PGA). According to Frontiers in Immunology, “Bacillus anthracis poly-γ-D-glutamic acid (PGA) capsule is an essential virulent factor that helps the bacterial pathogen to escape host immunity.”
Gram staining status OR acid-fast stain cell wall description. Explain why your pathogen has this status by describing your pathogen's cell wall structure.
Gram positive-…

You would answer: the sky isn’t red during daytime, it is blue. a. Staphylococcus aureus use MreB proteins to organize their morphology (shape) into cocci. b. Most bacteria will have maximum growth in a glucose-rich environment such as maple syrup. c. The table below shows that Streptococcus pyogenes is a facultative halophile. d. Your lab supervisor asks you to grow a new bacterium they got from a collaborator. You grow them in the suggested nutrient-rich media, and you notice that as the log phase growth progresses, the bacteria seem to turn purple. You mention it to your supervisor and ask whether it is the gradient from very high to low nutrient bioavailability that induces metabolic changes which induces the production of a purple pigment. Your supervisor tells you that is unlikely. Shape and arrangement of your pathogen Borrelia burgdorferi more famously known as Lyme disease has a spiral shape and an arrangement called spirochete which are spiral-shaped bacteria that resemble a long coil. 3. Type of flagella, number, and correctly named arrangement of the flagella (example: monotrichous) Because Borrelia burgdorferi is a spirochete they have a unique way in which they move. They have what’s called axial filaments. Axial filaments lap themselves around the bacteria between the cell wall and an outer sheath and are bound at the ends of the bacteria. The fibrils then spin and help move the bacteria in a spiral form. A good example of this motion would be a drill and a drill bit. They are also known as Endoflagella. 4. Capsule or not (If yes, describe what is it made from) Borrelia burgdorferi doesn’t have capsules but what’s called a slime layer. - This 35-year-old woman reported that she had experienced three bouts of urticaria of unknown origin about 10 years ago. The urticaria affected her mucous membranes and skin. She had experienced similar symptoms after repair of a fractured femur caused by a skiing accident. These symptoms were attributed to an antibiotic reaction. As an emergency room nurse, she observed occasional localized hives after the use of latex gloves. Even when she used hypoallergenic latex gloves, she continued to have hives every few months. Increased urticaria, at times generalized, continued to occur. Within 30 minutes of having a routine vaginal examination performed by a health care provider wearing latex gloves, she had an anaphylactic reaction that required resuscitation and hospitalization. A vaginal biopsy 1 week later required a latex-free environment for her safety. A short time later, she was forced to retire from nursing because of symptoms of asthma.
