Answer to Problem 1FQ

The living organisms such as Beavers have constructed a dam to create a pond and their non-living environment. Thus, they can change the environment accordingly.

Explanation of Solution

Ecosystem is defined as a community of organisms that occupy a given area and are interdependent on each other and the environment, which allows the organism to survive. These ecosystems can be large or small, terrestrial or aquatic, short or long lived. The study of ecosystem is usually done on a regional basis; however, the whole Earth system functions as an ecosystem on a large scale.

Ecosystems are open systems where the energy and matter move in and out. These are not isolated elements of nature. They are closely related and are usually part of the nearby ecosystems and also an integrated part of large ecosystems. This concept is very useful for examining the structure and function of the living communities and their forms.
