Colligative properties such as vapor pressure, freezing point, and boiling point are affected by the presence of solute particles in a solution.
In comparing the a solution to a pure solvent, the solution has a lower vapor pressure , has a higher boiling point and a lower melting point. These colligative properties effects depend only on the number of dissolved particles.
