1 Concerts Across Time American Military University MUSI200 Professor July 28, 2023
2 MUSIC I enjoyed the pop concert by Arianna Grande at One Love Manchester held on June 4, 2017, but never enjoyed the Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major: by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arianna Grande's live concert performing her songs was remarkable as it showed some love for the victims of Manchester, becoming more popular in the pop music industry (Andy Music Mix, 2017). This performance captivated her beloved audience as she sang her beautiful songs with powerful vocals and emotions. I did not enjoy Piano Concerto No. 23 due to the repetitive nature of the melodies. A lot of repetition made me feel that it was excessive, lacking variation (Rubinstein, 2011). This has had popularity in the past, but I never how it repeated itself from beginning to end. It lacked musical progression, making me feel monotonous and predictable, diminishing my engagement and love for music. Both concerts had a powerful influence on public life. For instance, the pop concert by Arianna Grande emotionally influenced her audience with her angelic voice throughout. She sometimes even shed tears performing one of her best songs. This was not strange as it made the audience stronger and more motivated. Piano Concerto No. 23 also had a powerful influence on its audience as I noticed some enjoyed the melodies, and they even nodded as the concert continued. Those clearly understanding the harmonious nature and melodies fully got engaged with the performing band (Rubinstein, 2011). During the One Love Manchester concert, Arianna Grande had a music list that evoked a range of emotions helping her audience to experience her musical journey. She was able to engage her audience and even left them to chorus her songs (Andy Music Mix, 2017). On the contrary, Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major; by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart had no musical journey, as it was repetitive. I was never engaged because I felt the music band was
3 performing one similar melody. In contrast, Arianna Grande's songs had many messages to the audience. For instance, the song "Be Alright" gave hope to her audience who had experienced the Manchester Terrific attack (Andy Music Mix, 2017). Unlike Piano Concerto No. 23, it never indicated any message to the audience. The only people who seemed to enjoy it were the band members (Rubinstein, 2011). Additionally, I did not enjoy Piano Concerto No. 23 due to its lack of depth, as its emotional palette was limited. This made it lack any connection to my feelings about music. There was also no balance between the soloist and the orchestra, who took a backseat providing the backdrop of piano lacking integration. Otherwise, the concerts were perfect, but I never enjoyed Piano Concerto No. 23. The Types of People Who Attended Concerts in the Classical Era and Those Who Attend Rock or Pop Concerts Today Different people in the world of music consider concerts a popular form of entertainment, while others consider it a way to popularize certain songs. People from the classical and modern eras flocked to concert halls only to experience the magic of live performances of their favorite artists (Pogue & Speck, 2021). However, there is a huge difference between those who attended concerts in the classical era and those in pop concerts for modern people today. This is because, in the classical era (1750-1820 AD), many people who attended the concerts were from the upper class and aristocracy who had the financial means to purchase tickets (Pogue & Speck, 2021). These people appreciated classical music composed by renowned figures, for example, Mozart, Beethoven, and Haydn. In the classical era, most concerts were held especially for formal affairs in opera houses and palaces. On the other hand, pop concerts today are usually attended by anyone interested in listening to music and do not require any classes. They are occasionally held in various places
