1.To Influence or Not to Influence?
Should Ms. Williams use her knowledge of social influence to encourage teachers to volunteer for the after-school remedial program? What are the specific ethical considerations related to this decision?
Yes, Ms.William should use her knowledge of social influence to encourage teachers to volunteer for the after-school remedial program since the remedial programs allow students to not feel bad from falling behind their peers and she has a good experience with remedial programs. I think she should do it as well since this will allow students to not have
to be help back. The specific eithical considerations related to this decision are trustworthiness, respect, fairness, caring and good citizenship. Those all need to be taken into consideration when she is trying to influence and encourage teachers to volunteer their
time for the after school remedial program. She also has to take into account that the teachers may also have kids and that would be hard for them to stay after school and teach longer.
2.What are the specific ethical considerations relevant to the decision to implement or not implement this strategy? What would you recommend and why?
The specific ethical considerations relevant to the decision to implement or not to implement is when she “
would meet with teachers individually to describe the benefits of the program. Then, she would make a very large request (e.g.,
Will you please volunteer to teach in this program without compensation for 4hrs/week for the next 9 months?
). When teachers say, “no”, she would then retreat graciously to the desired request (e.g.,
Okay, I
completely understand. You’re busy and your time is valuable. Would you at least be able to teach in the program for one hour, 1 day/week for the next 3 months?
)” this is an example of the Door-in-the face strategy. She needs to see how sometimes it may seem unethical for her
to do that since this means that the teachers are not going to be paid. Her making them feel bad if they say no to a smaller suggestion is kind of like manipulation but it is on them if they say yes.
3.What are the specific ethical considerations relevant to the decision to implement or not implement this strategy? What would you recommend and why?
She is implanting the foot-in-the door strategy which means she is going to keep asking anyone who already agreed to help and to help more since they already agreed once. The specific ethical considerations relevant to the decisions that she needs to be implement is if people will know that she is taking advantage of her foot being in the door and that she is now just using them. This can cause a lot of problems for her and for the program that she wants to implement. This is an example of a persuasive technique.

The manager of the Marketing Department in Hilton Group noted that in recent years, absenteeism has been steadily increasing, as has staff turnover. There have been instances of dysfunctional behavior such as the unauthorized sale of customer lists. Marketing Department employees who are directly involved with promotion campaigns are offered bonuses on the basis of the sales that are generated from their specific campaigns. This scheme has not been well-received by staff, since they feel that the sales generated from marketing campaigns are not a true measure of the value of the campaigns. They argue that the sales are dependent on many other factors outside the control of the Marketing Department and typically, bonuses payments are rarely paid to the Marketing employees. They feel that this is unfair, since many of the other departments receive regular bonuses. Marketing Department employees are also not satisfied with the opportunities for training and advancement, compared to other…

In 2006, Hewlett-Packard Development Company LP became embroiled in a controversy over methods used to investigate media leaks from its board. HP Chairperson Patricia Dunn could have simply asked the directors who was the source cited in the story, sought an apology and gone from there. With some direct face-to-face communication, the story would likely have ended quickly. It did not. “Not only did investigators impersonate board members, employees and journalists to obtain their phone records, but according to multiple reports, they also surveilled an HP director and a reporter for CNet Networks Inc. They sent monitoring spyware in an e-mail to that reporter by concocting a phoney tip. They even snooped on the phone records of former CEO and Chairperson Carly Fiorina, who had launched the quest to identify media sources in the first place.”

Answer the following question in a short paragraph or two. Make your answer as complete and as clear as possible.
On October 24th 2017, an employee working for Amazon at a Texas Fulfillment Center injured her back due to a broken guard rail that was supposed to protect her from falling inventory. Amazon refused to take any responsibility for the injury at the time and denied that the broken equipment was responsible. This is not the only incident of Amazon failing to consider the welfare of its employees. Amazon often does not pay for air conditioning for its warehouses staffed by human workers (while the warehouses staffed by robots must have AC or the robots will cease to function). And during the Covid-19 pandemic, Amazon refused to allow paid sick days for workers who were forced to quarantine due to exposure to the virus. What would a Virtue Ethicist say of this history of behaviour by Amazon?

The pressure was on again Patrick was receiving several complaints about the waste management plant. Residents from the area blamed the plant for their headaches and respiratory illnesses of their children. As Patrick reviewed the research there wasn’t anything relating the waste plant to the problems being experienced in the community. The residents contacted the media, and the Ministry of Health, and had now organized a March to coincide with a visit to the area by the Prime Minister.
Patrick called the managers to a meeting. Some managers were of the view that the report did not adequately deal with the potential problems that could come about from the odourless fumes and felt that the plant should be closed until this matter was properly researched. Others believed that such a move was too costly. After discussing the issues, the Public Relations Manager was asked to make a public statement. The statement read:
There is absolutely no evidence that the residents ailments are as…
