Destini Harper Analysis Questions Week 3: Tuesday Professor Hatch Healthcare Quality and Risk Management 26 January 2024 Analysis Questions Week 3: Tuesday 1. Risk example from last week: Data breach of the personal and billing information of patients from a specific hospital was involved in a data leak. Patients are upset and concerned about the safety and security of their information Lehigh Valley Health Network was involved in a data breach in January of 2023, which involved the attack on the IT software of the medical establishment. The hackers acquired personal information of patients like their names, phone numbers, addresses, medical records, health insurance information, social security numbers, etc. a. New risk: data breach affects the operations department of the organization, so its a larger issue than originally intended. The risk is a correlated risk. 2. What else does your CEO need to assure MEH staff adopts the practices prescribed by the law? a. The CEO needs to assure that MEH staff knows and understands the rules set by the patient safety officer and are aware of the members of the patient safety committee. 3. Describe the first phase of achieving significant change, such as the introduction of a new electronic medical record system? a. The first step in achieving significant change is to propertly outline the new processes and procedures that need to be executed by your IT staff, patients, and physician team. In addition to this, the CEO needs to make sure the MEH staff is educated and understands the legal standards set within the patient safety plan. Also adequate discipline for those who don’t follow the regulations. Proper training for all staff who will be using or working closely with the new medical record system to decrease the risk of error on the employee end. 4. How would you address staff resistance to such a change? a. I would address staff resistance to the change by first receiving input from staff before the change is made, to gauge where everyone’s head is at in terms of the change. I would try to come to an agreement with my employees, placing emphasis on the benefits of the change, their role and importance within the change and why its happening. This would be in an attempt to get more of the resisting staff on board with the new change. Lastly, proper training and information sessions will be provided to employees to give more information to possibly change their feelings about resisting the change. 5. Tell me about a writer you like and why? a. A writer that I have recently grown interest in is Colleen Hoover. I love her writing style in her books, as some of the stories include a dual-person POV rather than just one person. Her books cover real-life topics through the lens of characters set in the books. Many books exaggerate realistic events and dramatacize them to fit the plot of the book, and personally it makes the story unrelatable for me.
