Report
My analysis of the employee engagement survey concludes that two distinct leadership behaviors are needed to improve the work environment, Enable Others to Act and Encourage the Heart.  Enable Others to Act: Over the past 4 years, there has been a 27.27% decrease in the question “I trust my supervisor” and a decrease of 22.22% for “Provides leadership who act in just and ethical ways”.  As we focus on this behavior, we will strengthen our abilities to establish connections while cultivating trust and develop competence and self-determination to empower others (Kouzes & Posner, 2021). Encourage the Heart: Responses over the past 4 years in the praise, rewards, and recognition categories have consistently scored poorly.  Employee morale and engagement suffer and their efforts are affected when they are not acknowledged. Improving this behavior allows us to express gratitude for individual contributions, celebrate both small and large wins, and give us a community to celebrate accomplishments with one another (Kouzes & Posner, 2021). For the organization to effectively improve on these leadership behaviors, specific skills focus is necessary to include: Communication : Communication includes written and verbal skills, active listening, understanding, and empathy.  Leaders need to be able to relay messaging confidently and accurately.  They also need to have the skills necessary to provide constructive feedback to their employees. Recognition : Leaders need to be able to identify appropriate situations for praise and recognition and acknowledge it, including individual, team, and company-wide recognition. Emotional Intelligence: This skill is necessary for enhancing self-awareness, developing relationships, and helping through the decision-making process.  Having a high emotional intelligence can help strengthen employee engagement, morale, and employee retention (Landry, 2019). Improvements to these leadership behaviors and skills will improve the overall organization's performance through higher productivity from employees, reduced turnover, improved employee satisfaction through the overall culture and collaboration with others, and empowering others to explore new ideas and overcome challenges.
