Module 4: Applied Exercise BLS Job Research
I researched a high school English teacher and found the information somewhat simplistic. The work environment section was the part of the career information that was the most unexpected. The main point was that teachers work during school hours and may also work evenings and weekends to prepare lessons and grade papers. I was expecting a bit more regarding classroom management or building relationships with students. When researching the career, I found that typically a bachelor’s degree is required to teach and in public schools, you also have to get additional certifications on the state level. There
was not much information regarding any kind of internships or student teaching that may be required but that may also vary from state to state. I have had previous experience working in a classroom setting from being a tutor when I graduated and working with teachers that I had in high school, so I could draw from those experiences for this career. I can also get involved with programs on the state level to do student teaching or probationary teaching to be licensed. I have also had experience teaching and training in a workplace setting and having to adjust how I teach someone something to help them understand and retain the information based on how they learn. The biggest obstacle I will face is the size of my classes versus being in a smaller group setting like how training in a workplace typically takes place.

Carter Cleaning CompanyThe Better Interview is missing at Carter Cleaning Centers; the company currently has no organized approach to interviewing job candidates. Store managers, who do almost all the hiring, have a few of their own favorite questions that they ask. But in the absence of any guidance from management, they all admit their interview performance leaves something to be desired. Similarly, Jack Carter himself is admittedly most comfortable dealing with what he calls the “nuts and bolts” machinery aspect of his business and has never felt particularly comfortable having to interview management or other job applicants. Jennifer is sure that this lack of formal interviewing practices, procedures, and training account for some of the employee turnover and theft problems. Therefore, she wants to do something to improve her company’s performance in this important area.Questions:In general, what can Jennifer do to improve her employee interviewing practices? To improve the efficiency of the workforce, a job analysis questionnaire is usually conducted to gather information about the various duties and responsibilities of the employees. The Job Description
Based on her review of the stores, Jennifer concluded that one of the first matters
she had to attend to involved developing job descriptions for her store managers.
As Jennifer tells it, her lessons regarding job descriptions in her basic management
and HR management courses were insufficient to convince her of the pivotal role job
descriptions actually play in the smooth functioning of an enterprise. Many times
during her first few weeks on the job, Jennifer found herself asking one of her store
managers why he was violating what she knew to be recommended company
policies and procedures. Repeatedly, the answers were either "Because didn't know it
was my job" or "Because I didn't know that was the way we were supposed to do it."
Jennifer knew that a job description, along with a set of standards and procedures
that specified what was to be done and how to do it, would go a long way toward
alleviating this problem.
In general, the store…

Please critically evaluate the following research methodologies. Identify some of the problems with both methodologies. How could these methodologies be improved?
1. To access the extent of its trade area, a shopping mall stations interviewers in the parking lot every Monday and Friday evening. After people park their cars, interviewers walk up to them and ask them for their ZIP codes.
2. To access the potential for new horror movies starring alien robots, a major studio invites people to call a 900 number and vote yes if they would like to see such movies or no if they would not. Each caller is billed a $2 charge.

The company hires independent contractors to perform a variety of customer-focused tasks, such as complaint resolution, for its client, the financial services industry.
We get to know all of our contractors because, as the chief of staff puts it, "vetting of such contractors is very important because of the nature of our client's business. We've even watched contractors develop. We have one contractor with us today who started at 16 and is now a manager at 26."
The contractors are introduced to more than just the chief. Some of the contractors have been working with a customer for so long that if they leave, the crew must continue.
This company has 4,000 contractors and 226 full-time employees, so succession planning must take both into consideration.
When working with a contractor, it usually recommends to its financial services clients that they add the contractor to their at-risk registry.
The client will hire a full-time employee, and the contractor will learn new skills.
