PROJECT OUTLINE for Sam’s Kids 1 Project Outline: Sam’s Kids for Walmart Jonna Walker Southern New Hampshire University
PROJECT OUTLINE for Sam’s Kids 2 About Sam’s Kids Sam’s Kids, a complimentary in-store childcare service provided by Walmart at their Walmart Supercenters, is a tribute to the founder of Walmart, Sam Walton. Mr. Walton's commitment to enhancing the business and prioritizing customer and community satisfaction has left a lasting impact (Walmart Corporate) . Sam’s Kids is a means of upholding Mr. Walton's legacy by catering to our customers and fulfilling their requirements. Goals Sam’s Kids strives to create a seamless shopping experience for parents and caregivers by offering an uninterrupted shopping environment. By minimizing distractions like a crying child or a wandering toddler, parents can shop for an extended period. The longer parents spend in the store, the more likely they are to make additional purchases. Furthermore, children will eagerly anticipate visiting Walmart to enjoy the activities, prompting them to request future visits. As a result, parents will be encouraged to shop more frequently at Walmart instead of opting for the convenience of the nearby grocery store. Target Customer According to a recent CBS News article, the majority of Walmart shoppers, specifically 63%, are women shoppers. (Tice, 2010) Furthermore, almost half of these women are parents, whether they are single parents or partnered with children. This demographic of customers, who are parents or caregivers of children aged 6 and under, is our ideal target audience. Regardless of whether customers are a mother with three children, a nanny, or a grandparent who takes care of their grandchildren on weekends, we want to provide them with an uninterrupted shopping experience at Walmart Supercenters. Whether they are simply picking up a few items or need to purchase new tires, groceries, and even get an eye exam, we aim to
PROJECT OUTLINE for Sam’s Kids 3 alleviate distractions and concerns by offering your children a fun experience while they efficiently complete their shopping list. Market Opportunity Sam's Kids presents a significant market opportunity waiting to be tapped into. While several grocery stores have previously attempted to provide free childcare services, most of them had to discontinue due to low customer utilization. However, this situation presents a favorable circumstance for Walmart to seize the opportunity. Unlike other grocery stores, Walmart offers a diverse range of services beyond just groceries. Customers can conveniently avail themselves of services like oil changes, tire rotations, eye examinations, new glasses, clothing, pet supplies, baby items, school supplies, and groceries all under one roof. With a staggering 69% user share, Walmart stands as the most frequented grocery store, attracting an average of 240 million customers each week. (Elad, 2024) This data further solidifies the potential success of Sam's Kids within the Walmart ecosystem. Financial Opportunity Sam’s Kids has the potential to boost revenue through various avenues. By providing a convenient shopping experience for parents and caregivers, who no longer have to worry about their children getting tired, hungry, or bored, they can spend more time shopping leisurely. This extended shopping time can lead to an increase in revenue. Additionally, Sam’s Kids may attract new customers who choose to do their weekly shopping at Walmart in order to utilize this innovative service.
