Review Lesson 4 of the Course Overview for instructions about turning in your assignments. Assignment Questions In Section 10, you learned about promotion. Now, you'll apply what you learned. 1. Describe a company that you think uses advertisement well as a promotional strategy. What do you think makes their advertisements successful? (1-5 sentences. 2.0 points) Burger King is a good example of a company that uses advertisements as a promotional strategy. Burger King advertisements appear very frequently on apps such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. Burger King makes very appealing advertisements that make you want to eat their food. These appealing advertisements do really well on these platforms because of their very large audience. The point of these advertisements is to make the food look appealing and grab people’s attention. 2. Describe a company that has gotten publicity from the news media. Why did the company get publicity? Was it positive or negative publicity? (1-5 sentences. 2.0 points) Facebook is a company that reached many news outlets but not for a good reason. Facebook has been on many news outlets for allegedly giving people’s information to third-party apps. This has been going on for a while but Facebook has denied these claims. These recurring allegations give Facebook a bad rep and cause people to think the app is untrustworthy. 3. Describe a real or made up example of word of mouth promotion. Why do you think people were motivated to spread this message to others? (1-5 sentences. 2.0 points)
An example of word-of-mouth is when I was recommending to my friend that she try a different beauty store like Ulta than the one she always goes to, Sephora, since there’s a variety of options at much lower prices. 4. Find an example of a print or Internet ad that includes images and text, and then answer the following questions about it. a. Describe the ad. (1-3 sentences. 1.0 points) The ads may display sick kids in need and provide information about its website. b. What do you think this ad's marketing message is? (1-5 sentences. 2.0 points) TIP: Does it use a specific desire or fear, or does it try to show how the product is a need or how it solves a problem? The marketing message is to help solve the issue of many kids not being able to afford medical care. c. Is the ad trying to get people to do something? If so, what is it trying to get people to do? If it isn't trying to get people to do something, what do you think the point of the ad is? (1-5 sentences. 2.0 points) The ad is trying to get people to donate to help those who aren’t able to pay for their medical care. d. Do you think this ad is effective? Why or why not? (1-5 sentences. 2.0 points) This ad is very effective because Saint Jude is an extremely popular organization to help all of those in need. These ads have appeared in many different areas, which has provided millions of dollars to be donated to the sick kids in the Saint Jude program. 5. Find an example of a video ad either on TV or on the Internet, and then answer the following questions about it. a. Describe the ad. (1-3 sentences. 1.0 points) The Real Cost is a YouTube channel about preventing people from getting addicted. They are funded/paid for by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. b. What do you think this ad's marketing message is? (1-5 sentences. 2.0 points) TIP: Does it use a specific desire or fear, or does it try to show how the product is a need or how it solves a problem? The ads marketing message is to stop people from vaping. As an example, one of the ads contained a monster made of metal. This monster displayed how many toxic metals like nickel and lead can reach your lungs from vaping which can cause fear.
