Marketing Ideas Assessment 1
Part A: Establish framework for communication
Question 1: Explain the context and the idea briefly as follows: a.
State the name of the organization/business you have chosen.
Café Azahar
Azahar coffee is a Colombian food and beverages company which focuses in sourcing,
exporting and preparing Colombia´s best coffees. It started when an American, called Tyler
Youngblood, was backpacking through Colombia fell in love with the country´s coffee scene and
was amazed by the quality of the product. Traditionally, Colombia has always exported their
best coffee, so in order to contribute to that tradition the Azahar team sources great coffees all
around the country and ship it to the world, yet a percentage is roasted in Quindío, Colombia,
where it is processed and sent to a couple of cafés in Bogotá as a main of pillar of their
business is “Because Colombia deserves to drink its best coffee, too.”
Azahar is the coffee flower, it defines the journey of each grain that is toasted and the constant
search of Colombia’s best coffees. It represents the importance and beauty of having a
transparent relationship as well as honoring the work and knowledge of coffee farmers to bring
the best possible experience in the cup. b.
Explain briefly the idea you are proposing, and how this idea will
help the business to grow. Objective: Develop a social media campaign called Azahar Coffee Lovers
to increase social
media traffic by 15% compared to last year which will result in an increase of bags of coffee and
brewing methods being sold by 2%. Café Azahar has two successful stores in Bogota and one in Armenia located in high end
neighborhoods. They operate 7 days a week from 7am to 8pm and have established well
enough to serve customers all day long who sit there and eat and drink coffee. Recent brand
studies evidence the need to consolidate their digital strategy which includes presence and
awareness, in order to monetize efforts. Strategies: Educational Component
Create a Tiktok profile to upload weekly videos with videos about coffee releases and
brewing techniques (take advantage of fourth wave of coffee, create some sort of
educational information about the product). Social Selling-
Strategic alliances with stakeholders to make synergy with potential customers
(gastronomic influencers, universities, co-working spaces, event producers…) This will
be aligned with the buyer persona profile, we want to be wherever they are. Crosselling
Use of hashtags in contests to make crosselling of coffee bags and brewing methods.
I have created the next buyer persona:
Buyer Persona
22-32 years old.
Studying at a private high-class university or recently graduated and working, so they will
have coffee while working/studying from home.
Goes out to eat 3 times a week and spends between $30.000 and $60.000 COP.
Enjoys coffee and trying new things as well as learning from them (sees coffee as a
hobby).
General Journey
Phase 1
Have a meeting with Azahar’s team to define resources (tools to impulse the activities), dates
(due dates), budget and responsibles of different tasks.
Phase 2
Checkpoints to review the tasks status, compliance with dates and budget.
Phase 3
Measure results quarterly to extract insights and feedback to have a general overview of results
and take action if needed.
Tactics
Videos of Azahar baristas preparing the new releases in different brewing methods
explaining the theory and procedure. Call to action, visit website to purchase some
coffee and brewing methods.
Demistify coffee consumption.
Contact biggest influencer names in Bogota to make alliances (Bogotaeats,
Foodinbogota).
Crosselling combos with promotions.
Use of tags to make noise about coffee releases or important dates. c.
Explain the purpose(s) of presenting your ideas. The purpose of the presentation is to develop a social media strategy to implement in order to
have more social media followers that will engage with Azahar and buy more coffee bags and
coffee making equipment which is sold at the 2 stores in Bogotá. This will increase both sales
and brand awareness in social media.
d. Based on the scenario, briefly describe the 2 audience types
relevant to your presentation and explain what could be the
expectation of each audience type.
The audience for my presentation will be colleagues and the marketing director. Their interest in
hearing new ideas is to understand what strategy will be used in order to make the business
more successful. By doing so I’ll need to provide relevant data as detailed as possible with
statistics that exemplify what it is being presented as well as the clear guideline on how this will
be achieved. It this is met the decision will be taken by a more informed personal and the
outcome will be more clearly seen.
Question 2: Suggest 3 different options to present your idea and select the option
you would priorities. Justify your choice. (Hint: consider the
advantages and disadvantages of each method to justify your choice).
1.
Multimedia Presentation
A multimedia presentation will carry a message to a large group of people at once. It will do it
through visual and audio stimulation which will work best for different types of people while
taking advantage of modern technology. You can make it as interactive and appealing as
possible with visual aids and sounds in order to provide the information as desired which can
turn out to be quite appealing and memorable. It will be made up of five elements: text, images,
audio, video and animations. Yet it lacks the personal touch and questions and feedback won’t
be able to be answered and received immediately which is a must in such an important
message.
2.
Email
Will allow a fast spread of the message to all of my colleagues and the marketing director at a
same time. In here important and relevant information can be included, as well as images that
can exemplify what is written to help understand the information. Even though the message will
be delivered this is not the best option as it can rely on perceptions to understand the message
and if any question arises it will be a bit difficult to solve it as well as time consuming, as new
messages will need to be written and responded by both ends, without any actual confirmation
that the message was understood properly.
3.
Business Meeting
This is a great option of communicating a message. It creates a space for information to be
shared allowing discussion, feedback, even sharing ideas will informing several people at the
same time. It can be arranged to meet everyone’s schedule and they can see it in their agenda
to prepare themselves and be ready. Another advantage is that the energy that is given to the
presentation will build morale and if properly delivered even create a sense of belonging. A
business meeting is the selected method as it will help convey the message in the best possible
way while receiving live valuable feedback.
Question 3: What are the legislative and organizational requirements that would
apply to the idea and the associated communication? Colombian laws:

1. Creating. The process of collaborating with suppliers and customers to create offerings that have value.
2. Communicating. Broadly, describing those offerings, as well as learning from customers.
3. Delivering. Getting those offerings to the consumer in a way that optimizes value.
4. Exchanging. Trading value for those offerings.

Critics, however, maintain that marketing goes beyond that and creates needs and wants that did not exist before. They feel marketers encourage consumers to spend more money than they should on goods and services they do not really need.
Take a position: Marketing shapes consumer needs and wants versus marketing merely reflects the needs and wants of customers.
