ASE 365: Problem Set 1 Due date: 1 September 2023 For the following systems, draw the free body diagrams and derive equations of motion. If applicable, derive the equivalent stiffness that is placed at the location of the mass. 1. The pulley has an inertia I about the frictionless pin O . The string is inextensible. 2. The bar is rigid and massless, the pin at O is frictionless. 3. A disk of diameter D rolls without slip on the horizontal surface. The springs are attached to a point at a distance a from the center of the disk.
4. The uniform bar has a mass per unit length m l and a length L . It is hinged at a point A in a gravitational field acting down. 5. The cantilever beam has a flexural stiffness EI and length L . Find the effective stiffness of the beam k beam and use it to find the effective stiffness of the system at the point of application of the force F . Note: the ends of the springs move differently in case (a) and (b). (a) (b)
