Apparatus The equipment used in this experiment were: Tone Generator Software (Audacity), Computer, Adjustable closed ended tube system, Tone Generator (Speaker), Water, Thermometer and Beaker. Part I In this experiment, the first thing that was done was using a thermometer to record the ambient temperature of the room. Then, filling the closed ended tube system with water slowly and putting the closed ended tube system at a comfortable height. Furthermore, connecting the speaker to the headphone port of the computer, opening the program Audacity and selecting tone under the generate tab. Calculating the expected length at where the first harmonic is expected to appear is the next step. Then, clicking the green arrow in the audacity program to play the tone and adjusting the height of the water reservoir. Moreover, determining the length at which the resonance occurs to hear the maximum volume was done. Lastly, repeating the process for four different frequencies. Wrap Up For the wrap up of this experiment, using the four different frequencies to calculate the length for higher order harmonics was done. Then, trying to hit a higher harmonic using the experimental setup was executed. Moreover, calculating the frequency to generate a closed ended tube of 13.5 cm and then checking the answer by adjusting the tube length to about 13.5 cm to hear the maximum volume was conducted.
