PSY 215 Module Three Activity Template Part One To use this template, you will first select one option from the list provided in the Module Three Activity Guidelines and Rubric. Address each of the rubric criteria listed below with a minimum of 3 to 5 sentences per bullet. Support your answers with a credible source when necessary. Describe the possible biological causes of your selection. The Disorder that I have decided to analyze is Depression. The possible biological causes of Depression are many things. One factor in biology is the inherited Gene, given your family history Depression is more likely affect them. Another Biological factor is Hormone imbalance or an underlining condition. Life events and also lifestyle factors may be a biological symptom . (2008, Aguirre, Blaise A). Many factors can play a role in biology and depression some were more surprising, such as Sleep and Serotonin. Neurological stressors and how we respond to stress plays another role in depression. Also, Microbiome a gut bacterium that can lead to Gut bacterial infection, this creates the infection to host liver metabolism, and Brain inflammation. (Remes et al.) (General (US) et al.) Describe the possible psychological causes of your selection. A person who experiences many stressful life events may be more likely to experience depression because of the fear of failure. Many factors such as current or past mental health, negative self-image, cognitive fusion and emotional clarity. One surprising factor is body image and health with how you view yourself hinders depression in a person. Meta emotions are also a factor when a person respond to other emotions such as guilt about anger. (Remes et al.) Describe the possible social and cultural causes of your selection. Some major factors of social and cultural factors with depression are unemployment, social isolation and and three or more young children in the home. Some major factors include a death in the family loss of a job, dissolution a relationship etc. (2019, Barazani) Some cultural factors include having different understanding about what anxiety, stress or what even depression looks like in different cultures. Such physical feelings could also be interpreted into stress or anxiety such as back ache or headache. Because of these many cultures don’t express these symptoms to a health professional. Many cultures try to treat such symptoms with meditation or their own rituals. Most cultures also have the mistrust of health professionals leading them not to express these concerns. (2019, Martinez) 1
Describe the relationship between the biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors of your selection. While researching these factors there are, any similarities and differences. The key relationship with the factors between Biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors is the stressors which each example is having. Life course also has a relationship with these as well. When a person has a significant stressor with lifestyle such as isolation physical health and also social status. (Remes et al.) (NHS) Part Two Next, from the list, you will select two options that are known to share symptomatology or behaviors. In a minimum of 3 to 5 sentences, explain the ways in which the behaviors associated with the disorders overlap and discuss the potential diagnostic challenges presented by the overlap. Two disorders that have symptomatology are dissociation and anxiety. Both have symptoms of isolation and also a fear of interacting and tend to thrive on that isolation. Dissociation people tend to be detached from their environment which is also a symptom of depression. Anxiety is the response to certain stimuli. Both disorders overlap with the common factor of isolation which is a symptom of depression. Diagnosis may be challenging because of the common symptoms that make these disorders similar. If a patient expresses separation from the environment or responses to a situation could all be indicators of Depression leaving another disorder undiagnosed. (Remes et al.)
