In-class Assignment #2 Family Diversity It is certain that as an early childhood professional you will encounter children from diverse backgrounds whose families may have come from many different countries. How can you prepare yourself for working in a diverse early learning and care program? Objective of this Assignment : Students will have the opportunity to reflect on how to support a family who will be emigrating from another country. Instructions: For this assignment, work in a group of 2 or 3 and imagine the following scenario: You are working in an early learning and care program and receive word that the child of a family who will be emigrating from a country you know nothing about will be joining your group. The family sent a photograph of their family and contact information. You want to prepare yourself and the children, at the agency, to welcome the child and their family. In order to complete this assignment, first choose a country you know nothing about as this family’s country of origin. In your assignment, include the following: The name of the family’s country of origin. Identify four ways in which you will prepare yourself, the program, and the children to be culturally responsive towards this family. Identify four things you might do to help the family prepare before arriving to your program. A statement describing ways you hope these preparations will benefit both you and the family.
