The manager of the centre has asked for your help to prepare a training document that can be used to train existing and new staff on diversity in the workplace. The training tool has been developed in the format of a FAQ (frequently asked questions) document on diversity. Your manager has prepared the questions but has asked you to complete the answers. Work through Tasks 1.1-1.9 and provide answers to all questions. Tasks for Scenario 1 Task 1.1 a. What is cultural awareness? Is an ability to look inward and educated yourself, reflect on your own culture and reflect on your attitudes and beliefs about others b. What is cultural safety? Is achieved when an individual has acknowledged their own culture and aims to deliver services that are safe c. What is cultural competence? Iis the ability to relate effectively to people from other cultures and walks of life d. Why is it important for a personal trainer to possess cultural awareness and cultural competence? For a personal trainer is very important to possess cultural awareness as they are working with many clients from different cultures and will need to demonstrate respect and awareness of traditions. Cultural competence is equally important so that all clients are welcomed and have a sense of belonging in the gym. e. Why is it important for a manager of a fitness centre to possess cultural awareness and cultural competence? For a manager is very important to possess cultural awareness as they are working with all clients and all stuff. They should show cultural awareness when they hiring staff, working with staff, working with clients and handling customers comments. Cultural competence allows the development of a positive workplace and ensures the embracing of diversity f. Why is it important for the fitness centre to be culturally safe for clients? It will influence that person a lot!Language could impact how relationships are built and how people interact with each other. Communities may have negative attitudes towards some factors which can affect the community members’ ways of acting and thinking. Everything like this can directly affects what a particular person believe, and value based on how they were communicated with and what cultures were translated to them b. Diversity within groups is a key concept in sociology and political science that refers to the degree of difference along socially significant identifying features among the members of a purposefully defined group, such as any group differences in racial or ethnic classifications, age, gender, religion, philosophy,...
