Merseytravel wants new passengers and wants to promote their services to the public and so frequent passenger surveys are provided to the customers which are written communication and the customer filling out the survey can put their feedback on it in written communication so Merseytravel can improve. The source of these surveys may be given out to passengers on the train to get the customers feedbacks on how Merseytravels train are operating to see if they need improving etc. The reason why the surveys are giving out on the trains is because Merseytravel want the customer’s feedback on what they feel about their trains and since they are on the train they are more likely to get better feedback than if Merseytravel was to ask people to fill in a survey about their trains who where just walking in the town centre.
Advantages of written communication • Written communication helps in laying down apparent principles, policies and rules for running of an organization. • It is a permanent means of communication. Thus, it is useful where record maintenance is required. • It assists in proper delegation of responsibilities. While in case of oral communication, it is impossible to fix and delegate responsibilities on the grounds of speech as it can be taken back by the speaker or he may refuse to acknowledge. • Written communication is more precise and explicit.

Communication is much more than just talking; it the means of getting the message across through obtaining information, giving information, ideas shared, opinions and views. (buzzle.com, 2010)However it is important to have a good communication between service users and the service providers which then helps to build a good relationship. There are four types of communication which include verbal, non verbal, written, computerised and special communication.
Communication is a two-way process that takes practice and time to be fully effective and is very important in every aspect our personal and professional lives. We communicate every day of our lives both verbally or nonverbally. The process of verbal communication is the exchanging information by transmitting an idea, send that idea, receive feedback, understand the idea and the feedback and provide feedback to the person who sent the message. The main components of communication are context, encoder, message, medium, decoder, and feedback. The context could be social, chronological, cultural, or physical. Verbal communication is talking to someone and giving them information and also retaining information. Furthermore verbal communication is very important in a health and social care setting because it allows care workers and service users interact with each other face to face. This would then help the service user understand what the care worker is trying to say/explain to them because it would be clear and precise. The service users may feel that the care workers are showing an interest in their needs and well-being if they are communicating with them verbally (Face to face).
Communication is essential in everyday life. The more efficient and effective we communicate the better quality of life we can achieve not only for ourselves but for those around us. We need communication for numerous reasons: -
1. written messages do not have to be delivered on the spur of the moment as they can be edited and revised several times before they are sent so that the content can be shaped to maximum effect 2. written communication provides a permanent record
Signposts stands as reminder for the receiver that the has been an alteration or switch or simply pointing out an example;
Oral communications: This could be spoken one to one, questioning and feedback, this could be over the telephone or face to face, Oral communication allows most misunderstandings to be resolved and can gage by observing their reaction whether they fully understand or are happy with the outcome.
Good written communication is essential for business purposes. A letter is a good example of written communication. An example could be, the hospital sending a letter out to someone who may have an appointment with a consultant. The letter would inform the individual on the time, date and location of the appointment. Another example of written communication could be a consultant writing to a GP informing him/her of results of a test carried out on his/her

The health care practitioner always should use appropriate language when they are working with service users and their families, colleagues. Communication is the conveyance and flow of ideas from one person to another. The exchange of information takes place through letters, words, symbols and nonverbal behaviors. It involves the transmission of ideas from the sender to the receiver. Communication is effective only if the receiver fully understands the transmitted information. Many problems and failures occur in organizations due to poor communication. Objective and goals fail due to misunderstandings in the organization. Effective communication provides a chain of understanding to all participants in the organizational framework. It promotes the flow of information both vertically and horizontally.
There is a number of ways written communication can be displayed, (Notes Desk March 8th, 2009) this website states “a written communication message can be transmitted via email, letter, report, memo etc.” This shows that written communication has a wider range of non-verbal communication with a different set of rules. There are some great advantages of written communication that outshine verbal communication such as, where record maintenance is required. Written communication is a permanent means of communication so therefore it is much more secure and safe to keep it recorded. One of the main reason why written communication is so important to a sports company is due to the company’s principles, policies and rules which lie within written communication. Without important documents, a company would not be able to run due to lack of professionalism.
“Written reports on the other hand give executives, managers, and supervisor’s detailed information as to their overall progress on projected tasks within different departments; and overall company goals” (Nelson & Quick, 2017, pg. 131). In addition, however, there is other types of written communications, such as memo’s and letter’s which give more adequate information when communicating officially, these being larger in span and theme compared to memo’s. “Thus, making the shortest kind of written communication to be that of form, which may be used to collect information inside or outside the organization” (Nelson & Quick, 2017, pg. 131).
