In chapter five, “Facility Design and Planning”, the text talks about the design and planning of an athletic training room and how the best ones are those that have undergone comprehensive planning before its development. Spacing, lighting, accessibility, and traffic flow are key elements that should be considered in the planning of an athletic training room. The process will also include collaboration with internal and external stakeholder and contractors.
Case Study 1- Question 1: “Did Deanna employ the proper planning process when developing her ideas for the new athletic training room? What should she have done differently? How could she build a stronger case for her ideas?” Deanna didn’t choose the best way to plan and design the new athletic training room for the high school. She did what the planning committee asked her to do by meeting with the architect and discussing her ideas for the athletic training room, but she wasn’t very realistic and seemed to be asking for a lot. If she would have gone through the phases of designing and constructing an athletic training room she probably wouldn’t have proposed such an expensive design. The first phase is to conduct a needs assessment. In this phase a program statement is formed to help the architect determine what the space requirements are for the athletic training room.
