Health care moved into the spotlight on March 23, 2010 with the Affordable Care Act becoming a law that plans to provide insurance to all Americans, reduce the high cost of health care, and continue to maintain the current standard of care. How will health care management organizations be able to accomplish this daunting task? One way for any organization to meet a new requirement is to review their mission, vision, goals, and objectives and readjust or realign as needed. As changes occur in the organization they are clearly delineated to the staff responsible for implementation and as the staff begins to focus on these new and shared goals, teams will form and develop to achieve the new goals. The periodic meeting would change from a group to a team if during the meeting they collaborate and reach a shared goal or task that they are mutually accountable for. From my perspective, this first meeting would be a perfect time to begin to develop a team out of the group of individuals by talking to them, understanding their skills and strengths, highlight how they are all connected to the success of the organization, and reinforcing their shared goals (Goodwin & Griffith, 2009). As this group of individuals move forward and begin to share responsibilities a team will emerge.
Motivation and Teams
Is there anything we chose to do that is not motivated in the hope of gaining something or the fear of a consequence? Another colleague feels that the team could function effectively even if some members lack motivation but the truth is motivation is critical to getting the job done. First lets clear up any confusion on the importance of motivation. Success in any organization depends on reaching your goals and objectives and when team member’s personal goals or values are in alignment with the organizations mission and vision they have a higher level of motivation. The outcome of these higher levels is increased productivity, improvement in the quality of work and financial gains
