Leadership is an important aspect of life in the military and in the civilian world. In both sectors, one will work with others, work for others, and having others work for him. Learning how to follow and lead effectively is essential to success in this world of human collaboration. As midshipmen, we learn leadership through not only our leadership classes, but also our daily lives and roles here at the United States Naval Academy. The lessons and principles we learn from class relate directly to our life in the halls and on the Yard and make us better followers, leaders, and people. One of the most important elements of leadership is self-actualization. We took many personality tests in class to discover our strengths and tendencies. I was not surprised by my results. I know that I am introverted and prefer to work alone than in a bad group. I have always been like this, but I have also been trying to become more extroverted, especially here at the Academy. I have been told to speak up more and that I should be louder. This is true to a certain extent, and I will work on this. However, leadership class taught me how to capitalize on the strengths I already possess. I particularly enjoyed reading the article about how introverts can be good leaders. I realized that I do prefer to listen to others and get their opinions like the article mentioned. It said this can be a great asset in leadership making introverts well-liked and well-respected by their subordinates. I decided
Leadership is difficult to define. Leadership is a concept that probably carries many different reactions with many different kinds of people. However, we all feel we know good leadership when we see it, and we can often tell when good leadership is missing by the way a team or organization struggles without it. Ask yourself, Are you willing to do absolutely anything for the common good for your employer, your teammate, your family, your friend?
One of the challenges facing nurses today is learning how to be an effective leader. Assessing and analyzing the style of leadership the nurse possesses is the first step in facing the challenge. The purpose of this paper is to analyze and understand the characteristics of my style of leadership from an assessment performed by Gallup Strength Finders and DiSC and compare the strengths I have in common with Eleanor Roosevelt.

In the changing business environment, leaders of all organisations may face unprecedented uncertainty, especially the technology advancement and changes among the employees. To survive and succeed, leaders should have some necessary attributes. Meanwhile, some changes for leadership skills have to be made to confront the challenges.
Every leader has their own idea of what effectiveness looks like (Jones, 2015). For this study, authentic leadership will be the focus, as defined by Avolio, Gardner and Walumbwa (2004) an individual acting according to their values and convictions, building credibility and the respect and trust of those that follow. Authenticity is a choice that individuals must choose to embrace instead of a character trait that comes from within (Murphy, 2012). Outcomes of authentic leadership remain limitedly researched both theoretically and empirically (Miniotaite & Buciuniene, 2013). Authentic leadership lacks empirical evidence between the leader’s perception and the follower’s perception (Peus, Wesche, Streicher, Braun, & Frey, 2012). Wang, Sui, Luthans,

It would appear that my original theory regarding the applicability and practicality of this capstone was accurate. This course has managed to successfully supplement the knowledge I had previously acquired in other courses. For example, I was familiar with and understood the basic principles of leadership. However, this course has taught me that the ability to lead is not an exact science, but an art and determining how to proceed when faced with uncertainty or a highly volatile situation is an exceptional challenge.
Leadership is a powerful word. It can represent the good or bad in a person. When I think of leadership, I think of the people in my life who have accomplished a great deal to help others. I noticed that all of them have their own values and ways of accomplishing greatness in their life. I believe that in order for me to be successful as a leader, it is essential that you understand my own personal beliefs and values.
What insights have I gained about my role as an educational leader from these chapters?
In developing this idea of what leadership is, I examined what was most important to me in being a leader. Since leadership is such a broad term, this could not be a process whereby I could generalize leadership for everyone. Rather, the task is to determine who I am as a leader. I asked myself, what is it that shapes the vision? What are the factors that comprise a leader, and what makes these things add up to create something larger than ourselves as leaders? Thoughtful reflections on these things lead me to generate the following definition of leadership: Leadership is about more than simply having followers; it is not a title, and it is not achieved by just following a few principles. Leadership is complex, though at its
Leadership is an inventive process that aligns professionals with a goal, objective and or vision statement. It displays your belief in the work that you are outing in for others. Leadership must always emerge and support a visionary statement for what you as a person believe in. Leadership is believed to be the art of leading others to deliberately create a result. In leadership, leaders exemplify themselves as a guiding tool for others in this case for teachers. Leaders must show commitment and work ethic in this all that they do. They must by put their heart and desires into their work, and present the love of Christ to my fellow subordinates and co-workers in all that they do. Effective leaders must remain committed to their values in regards
The Leadership Potential assessment (Lussier & Achua, 2010, p. 3) yielded a score of 31 where the range was from 0 to 35; 0 representing low leadership potential and 35 representing the highest leadership potential. In this assessment the higher the score, from a generic standpoint, the more potential for leadership exists. However, it does not assess your willingness to do what it takes to lead or desire to lead.
After taking the leadership assessment quiz, I scored 164. My score mean that I range in the middle, where I am still considered new to leadership and have areas to improve. I agree with this score because there are some aspects that I don’t have experience in yet. For example I have not had the opportunity to work with budgets and delegating co-workers. My strengths are in my personal qualities such as my work ethic, positivity to continue to work towards goals, and problem solve while looking for answers in new or different ways. Overall I think my leadership style is a mix of Autocratic and Democratic because I can work alone to complete goals or dictate tasks to others but I also like collaborating with others, hearing their opinions, and
This reflective journal will focus on authentic leadership and its role in establishing an empowering work environment. I had realized there were patient safety concerns at the moment of handoff for many years. Once I took on a leadership role it became even more evident that nurse to nurse handoff is a critical point where errors can happen. As part of my daily routine, I round to get a feel for the department, staff, and patients. I began to notice that my first round of the day was always the longest and filled mostly with complaints from staff about how patients were left or issues about the previous shift. I also noticed that as a Clinical Flow Coordinator I would receive multiple calls throughout the day from either staff or management about how patients arrived at the floors. There were incident reports filled out, calls to management, and many emails about these various issues.
“For attempting to teach others is sometimes the best way of teaching ourselves” Daniel Defoe said. We learn leadership skills when going out our way to teach someone else how to do something. Teaching others lessons also help shape who you are as a person. You don’t have to always be a teacher but just know people are looking up to you. Teaching someone can come in negative as well as positive ways in society. Leaders can lead a person through a right path because they don’t want them messing up something that only comes once. But just like there are good leaders there’re bad ones too. We all have that one role model we look up to; wanting be like them. You don’t have to be like these celebrities on tv because you're not them. We want to be better than them and want more for ourselves. So strive for better and don't follow around the wrong crowd.
