Rewarding students by providing them with feedback is important to not only help them improve, but also to provide them with the knowledge that they are doing things right. Not all feedback has to focus on the negative. It is equally important to share with others areas they succeed in. this will boost morale and leave them to feel more confident in their work. Feedback is critical to anyone no matter the type of environment they are working in. Individual and groups can both benefit from feedback. Leaders that provide feedback are providing followers with resources they may need. Transformational leaders also work to provide followers with what they need. Women tend to be more transformational and some would think this would make women leadership more appealing, but I believe it can be difficult for others to perceive a woman as charismatic and therefore unable to lead in high positions. If it is difficult for a woman to connect with specific followers they may not be able to get their vision through to their followers making it impossible to inspire others to jump on board with certain actions that are taken. Changing this may be difficult, but providing women with opportunities will give them a chance to prove themselves. My leadership philosophy is based on the idea of giving others opportunity and making sure moral and ethical standards are kept. A leader’s faith, values and character should all be a priority in their leadership style and should never be risked.
To be sure that the message (knowledge of the subject) has reached the students (the receiver) with the same meaning, purpose and intention as was desired, the teacher has to get some acknowledgement from the students. Feedback is the process that ensures this. This can take the form of a mod, an acknowledgement, or doing something as expected by the students. Feedback provides a learning opportunity to the-teacher and the students both as it mirrors where the communication has gaps or inadequacies indicating the corrective action to be taken. In case of classroom teaching such feedback is essential for effective teaching. On the other hand if students act in conformity with the communicated items, they also need to know this from the teacher. This kind of feedback loop is the most essential principle of effective teaching. Positive and negative both kinds of feedback are necessary. They should, however be focused on specific action rather than on the individual student. Comments related to behavior are accepted more easily than those relating to an individual personality, attitudes, feelings etc. But it is necessary to tell the students where they are wrong. If they are not told this, the wrongs may perpetuate. Feedback, which is provided "Here and Now" is more meaningful than the delayed one. It is more effective to provide a feedback as a way of sharing information rather than insisting on the right way of doing things. For that reason the teacher
Giving constructive feedback is crucial; without it learners cannot learn (Rogers, 2004). When used to emphasise progress rather than failure, it motivates learners, building confidence and enabling them to recognise mistakes as part of a process that brings them closer to their learning goals. It can help both teacher and student to identify further learning opportunities or action to be taken.
Feedback allows the opportunity for both the teacher and the student to gain insight to what things that did that were impactful and those they could use a bit of editing or refinement. Feedback is helpful as it provides the trainer/student to get ideas or insight they may not have known or even thought about. The best part about feedback is that, if done well, can make the learning environment better for both parties. “Receiving feedback enables the learner to close a critical gap, specifically the gap between current status and a more desirable level of achievement” (Hattie & Yates, 2014, p. 66). For the student, feedback can be a means of guidance, to help them understand that they are headed in the right direction or steer them on the
As a college student, I take instructor’s feedback very seriously. Instructor feedback is an important factor of student’s performance in college. It can be positive or negative. The objective of instructor’s feedback is to help students identify what they are doing right or wrong. This helps them to better their performance. As a student, I am very interested in researching about instructor’s feedback. What are the things students look for in a feedback? How effective are they? How can instructors provide more effective feedback? Like myself, the majority of the students who participated in my study think instructor feedback is very crucial to their academic performance and they benefit from it.
The focus of this study is primarily on performing tasks and the identified issues are several. Correct delivery of feedback is defined and guidelines are proposed since most research on this subject concludes that feedback can enhance learning considerably if delivered correctly. The interaction of task and student characteristics is investigated to address the major gaps in understanding that still exist, inclusively, instructional context in the efficiency of feedback.
Feedback is important when it can be executed effectively, both positive and negative are very helpful for an
I have definitely gained a new perspective about feedback and feedforward from my research the reading to help encourage students to do better. According to (Gibbs & Simpson, 2004; Sadlier, 1998; Weaver, 2006) suggest adequate quality feedback has to be accurate, giving timely, and comprehensive, and relevant. It also has to be accessible to students which leads to catalytic and coaching value, and inspire confidence and hope. Students needs to be providing on-going feedback and inspired to be motivated enough to self -regulate their own learning outcome is the bottom
Leadership is something that can be different for each person who practices it. We all have different ideas and different backgrounds and skill sets that we can use to make us better leaders.
Transformational and transactional leadership styles (Burns, 1978) also provide a good framework to study the role of gender in leadership. Transformational leader-ship works by appealing to moral values of followers. Such leaders strive to gain con-fidence of their followers by behaving as role models and want to inspire them (Bass, 1990). On contrary, transactional leadership relies on followers’ self-interest. These leaders tend to give rewards based on results, and follow the patterns of management-by-exception (Bass, 1996). Transformational leadership has communal characteris-tics, and therefore, female leaders leadership styles are often closer to transformation-al leadership rather than
Leadership principles in a good leader start with an honorable character that gallantly serves an organization. I believe leadership is serving others, and working with others to triumph a significant mission. I plan to strive to lead by having a positive attitude, painting a clear path to support others, and providing a sense of humility and integrity. I believe in the power of difference in moving the world forward. I plan to be a successful leader by showing others they trust and confide in me.
During individual’s professional development process, he or she needs feedback for the purpose of continuous learning and growth. This week’s articles provide a comprehensive introduction to the role of feedback in the workplace.
Leadership and management works best when resources and opportunities are not channeled to the direction of a select few individuals for the purpose of gaining undue favor in comparison to the rest. The balance of leadership is in giving back to the society, a mindset that tunes leadership as a chance of making for oneself is often misconstrued. Leadership is a responsibility that affects society at large in terms of development, quality of life and future aspirations. That being said, I would ensure that as a executive, I would refrain from all corrupt dealings that would increase chances of failure for my company. This meaning the organization and my leadership skills must be transparent in regards to the operations. Recruitment, audit, planning and research teams must be transparent to avoid the fatalities that may arise as a result of failing to adhere
Philosophy is a theory or attitude held by a person or organization that acts as a guiding principle for behavior. Each of these philosophical elements require thought and development time. A leadership philosophy is the way we see ourselves as leaders and this philosophy guides our actions, behaviors and thoughts. Moreover, leadership philosophies can change as you grow to understand yourself within the context of leading. Why is a leadership philosophy necessary? Three reasons to develop and use a leadership philosophy, they are: character, consistency, and collaboration. A solid leadership philosophy will build greater self-awareness in how you act and speak. This paper explores introduction, mission statement, reflection of a model/idol leader, personal leadership philosophy and an overall conclusion is included in the assignment.
My research questions is :When given specific feedback that is positive and corrective, students will increase the quality of their writing assignments and therefore their grades. There is a lot of research on the topic of specific feedback. According to Black and William(2001), feedback should focus only on the quality of the work produced by the student and should not compare students to each other. This feedback should on goals the student can achieve; an individual guide for improvement.
Ken Blanchard once said, “Feedback is the breakfast of champions.” As a future teacher, my goal is to produce future champions. Thus, I should provide my students with excellent feedback. Giving feedback to students can be very helpful. It can promote self-confidence, development of thinking, and motivation. On one hand, when teachers give positive feedback they build their students’ confidence. Whether it is in class or privately, students will feel recognised. Students will think of their teacher’s feedback as a motive for keeping up the good work. Moreover, students will think of their teacher’s feedback thoroughly and try to adjust their work to come up with a better product. On the other hand, Students receiving negative feedback is devastating most of the times. Calling a student “Stupid” or telling him “Your answer is wrong, you can’t do anything right,” inside the calls or even in private can cause serious psychological damages. the student will feel that it makes no sense to edit his work or even try to accomplish anything in the future because he is “Stupid” and
