Explain how the ethos, mission, aims and values of a school may be reflected in working practices.

I work in the place where people come to rehabilitate their lives after serious injuries. Many patients are there due to events that change their lives forever. Many of my patients are spinal cord injuries which left them paralyzed for life. This where two of my mission statements come from; To accept the things as they are, things that I have no power to change. To advocate for others when they can’t advocate for themselves.

Target Corporation’s mission statement is to make their company the most sought after shopping destination by delivering a great guest experience with the most innovated technologies and quality merchandise. Target is the second largest general merchandise retailer in America. Target was founded by George Draper Dayton, in 1902, with the name Goodfellow Dry Goods. In 1903, Mr. Dayton changed the name to The Dayton Compay. Furthermore, the first Target store opened in 1962 in the Minneapolis, Minnesota which became the main headquarters. It grew to be the largest division of the Dayton-Hudson Corporation and was subsequently renamed the Target Corporation in 2000. Target anticipates staying ahead by challenging the company to be the most efficient and intellectual upscale company in the retail industry (Target Corporation, 2016).

The ethos consists of values and beliefs that contribute to the character of the school itself and the atmosphere experienced by all those who go there. The overall intention of the school is the mission it may be short easily recalled phrase or a single word. it usually overlaps with the vision or aims of the school. Aims of the school may be short statements like instilling a thirst for lifelong learning in children or giving pupils the confidence to take up opportunities when they are offered. the values of a school represent the moral code that links it with its local community and informs expected behaviors and attitudes of pupils the children are valued by the school its staff and by each other should be seen very clearly in the way that the learning and development culture is celebrated by the school from posters and displays. Children should be encouraged to learn together and to collaborate with each other and with staff members so that their learning becomes positive and effective way. Atmosphere at a school is often based around the attitudes of those who go there staff and pupils. it should be clear to all visitors that the school respects and values diversity and equal opportunities and that these things are part of the commitment of the school to a

Target mission statement clearly describes the company objective are to satisfy the needed of their customer by offering exceptional shopping experiences with outstanding value. Through which they also mean, offer quality products for an affordable price.

Reading Partners, a nonprofit organization, aims to combat illiteracy and assist students from all over the nation who do not have a firm grasp on reading. Located on their website, Reading Partners’ mission statement is “to help children become lifelong readers by empowering communities to provide individualized instruction with measurable results” (“Vision & Values”). In other words, the organization wants to give each child the opportunity to learn how to read by sitting down with and teaching them individually. By being literate, Reading Partners believes that children will be more capable in the real world and will have more opportunities to succeed not only inside the classroom, but outside of it as well (“About Us”).

The purpose of the company is about satisfying employment in a successful business which increases the position as an outstanding retailer. This strategy is based on three objectives such as partners, customers and profit which together can make the company successful. As it was

Similar to this, Doyle (1998) points out, that a mission statement describes the purpose of the business and its essential characters.

Whole Foods, like many other organizations, has a motto that guides their day-to-day business. Their motto is, “Whole Foods, Whole People, Whole Planet” (Our Mission and Vision, n.d.). This motto emphasizes that they are not just focused on food retail. Their mission goes beyond that; they are concerned for the well-being of their customers and employees, and even the planet as a whole. While whole foods does not have a separate mission statement, they do have a strong vision statement. This vision statement compensates for the lack of a mission statement because it brings them both together. They identify their deepest purpose as an organization to be “helping support the health, well-being, and healing of both people — customers, team members, and business organizations in general — and the planet” (Our Mission and Vision, n.d.). This vision statement identifies the main purpose of the company. Their main reason for existing is to provide healthy food for their employees and customers in order to help promote a healthier lifestyle. Their vision statement also emphasizes the importance of both customers and employees. By identifying their Team Members as people of importance, they are showing that they truly care about their well-being and they are not just concerned about making a profit. Their statement is also goal-oriented. It gives the company a sense of direction so that everyone knows the main goal they are to be working towards.

According to Peter Drucker (1993) “A business is not defined by its name, statues or articles of incorporation, it is defined by the business mission. Only a clear definition of mission and purpose of the organization makes possibly clear and realistic business objectives.” For setting future strategies of the business, a clear mission is very fundamental.
