Chapter 8

Ashamed and guilty of his behaviour, Landon apologises to Jamie. Soon after, Eric enters Landon’s dressing room and asks him what he plans to do to spoil the performance. Landon says that he wishes to perform earnestly, to the best of his capacity. Surprised by this response, Eric says: Eric responds, “I guess you’re finally growing up, Landon.”

Landon is most concerned about the pivotal scene in which Tom Thornton first sees the angel and utters, “You’re beautiful.” So far, Landon has not been able to say this convincingly. However, Landon is awestruck when he finally sees Jamie on stage, wearing a flowing white dress and some makeup, with her hair down. He is able to deliver the dialogue earnestly.

In this chapter, Landon realises he has been unfair to Jamie and he apologises. Eric’s comment that Landon has finally grown up shows that he’s become mature and more empathetic. It is an important chapter for Landon’s transformation since he finally decides to follow his heart, ignoring what others would think of him. This is also the first time he admits that he finds Jamie beautiful and attractive.
