Question

What is the structure of the gel stain being used? There are several other dyes that can bind DNA and used for gel imaging. Find an example of such a dye, and draw its structure.

Expert Solution
Step 1

Gel staining is very important visualization and detection procedure that follows protein polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE), such as SDS-PAGE, native PAGE, or 2D-PAGE. Proteins are separated by relative size, or charge and size in the case of 2D-gels, after electrophoresis, but the resolved bands are not yet visible within the clear gel matrix. The immobilised proteins are then stained using staining chemicals that have unique affinities.
