Dimethyl sulfide contains a functional group that is not listed in Table 1-6. The functional group in Table 1-6 whose reactivity might resemble to the reactivity of dimethyl sulfide is to be determined.

Functional groups are the components in the structure of a molecule which govern the chemical reactivity of the molecule. Compounds having the same functional groups but different structures are expected to have similar chemical reactivity since chemical reactivity mainly depends on the functional group. All the elements in the same group are expected to behave in a similar manner chemically.
