Introduction:
Bacteria contain the gene mcr-1 that provides them with resistance to polymyxin, also known as colistin. Polymyxin is considered to be the last option of antibiotic against bacteria that are resistant to multiple drugs. This leads to the possibility of emergence of infections that no drug can treat any more. Due to this, the CDC has been closely monitoring the passage of this gene.
