Chapter 10, Problem 24CP
Summary Introduction

To determine:

The type of muscle tissue that is least impacted by the change in extracellular Ca2+ concentration during contraction.

Introduction:

The increased amount of the Ca2+ promotes the formation of actin-myosin complex in the muscle cells. Therefore the Ca2+ concentration of the cytosol should always be low. Muscle fibers would fail to relax if the concentration of the Ca2+ remains increased. The muscle tissue that would be least impacted by the increased concentration of Ca2+ in the extracellular space in the contraction state, is the skeletal muscle tissues.
