Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The difference between oxygenated gasoline and reformulated gasoline has to be stated. The reason as to why oxygenated gasoline and reformulated gasoline are being produced has to be stated.
Concept Introduction:
Power obtained from the utilization of chemical and physical resources, to do work is known as the energy. Gasoline is the source of chemical energy whereas hot gases are the source of heat energy. During the explosion of gasoline into hot gases, the chemical energy is converted into heat energy. The two forms of energy that are involved in the explosion of gasoline into hot gases are chemical energy and heat energy.

- Write the chemical formulas for the products formed when each of the following hydrocarbons undergoes complete combustion. a. CH4 b. C4H10 c. C4H6 d. C6H6arrow_forwardComplete and balance the following combustion reactions. Assume that each hydrocarbon is converted completely to carbon dioxide and water. (a) Propane + O2 (b) Octane + O2 (c) Cyclohexane + O2 (d) 2-Methylpentane + O2arrow_forwardList four common fuels used by our society, and draw structural formulas for the corresponding hydrocarbons that compose them.arrow_forward
- What property is characteristic of chlorinated hydrocarbons? a. chemical stability b. high flammability c. high chemical reactivityarrow_forwardAlcohols are very useful starting materials for the production of many different compounds. The following conversions, starting with 1-butanol, can be carried out in two or more steps. Show the steps (reactants/catalysts) you would follow to carry out the conversions, drawing the formula for the organic product in each step. For each step, a major product must be produced. (See Exercise 62.) (Hint: In the presence of H+, an alcohol is converted into an alkene and water. This is the exact reverse of the reaction of adding water to an alkene to form an alcohol.) a. 1-butanol butane b. 1-butanol 2-butanonearrow_forward4.2 What is an alkane?arrow_forward
