Find the amount S saves when her income becomes $24,000.
Answer to Problem 7MPS
$1200
Explanation of Solution
Given:
When S had annual incomes of $15,000 and $18,000 , she saved $600 and $900 , respectively. The amount saved is a linear function of the amount earned.
Calculation:
Let
The annual income of S = x
Amount she saves = y
The linear function :
y = ax +c ; where a and c are constants.
Given income = $15,000 and saving = $ 600 .
So, 600 = 15, 000a +c………….(1)
Also , income = $18,000 and saving = $900.
So, 900=18, 000a + c……………( 2)
Subtract (1) from (2):
Substitute the value of a in (1) and find c :
So, the equation that relates saving of S to her income is :
So, when S’s income is $24,000 :
Hence , the saving of S is $1200 when her annual income is $24,000.
