Concept explainers
Interpretation: The following question can be comprehended from the concept of Le Chatelier’s principle.
Concept introduction: Le Chatelier’s principle or the equilibrium law is employed to predict the influence of alterations in the conditions on the equilibrium of a reaction. It states that when any system or reaction at equilibrium for a longer time is put to alteration in temperature, concentration, pressure or volume, then the reaction or system adjusts itself to partly counter these influences and a new equilibrium is attained.
Given: Here we are given the formation of 68.2 g of hydrogen sufide from 2.02 g of hydrogen and 10.3 g of sulfur gas with the liberation of energy. We need to find the numerical value of Kc for this equilibrium mixture. We also need to find the shift in equilibrium, if more of hydrogen is added to the mixture and if the mixture is placed in a 5.00 L container with no change in temperature. We also need to find [S2] if a 5.00-L container has an equilibrium mixture of 0.300 mole of H2 and 2.50 moles of H2S, considering the temperature remains constant.
