Chapter 11, Problem 1RQ
Why must safety stands be used after lifting a vehicle with a floor jack?
Expert Solution & Answer
To determine
Why safety stands must be used after lifting a vehicle with a floor jack?
Explanation of Solution
Floor jack is a device used to lift a vehicle or a vehicle component but is not designed for the purpose of holding the load. If the load is retained, the hydraulic fluid in the jack may leak past the seals and lower the component with the possibility of causing a personal injury.
Therefore, safety stands also called jack stands must be used to support the vehicle after lifting the vehicle with the floor jack.
