Question
Chapter 11, Problem 27P
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
Concept Introduction:
Alkenes are converted to alcohols by methods, such as acid-catalyzed hydration of alkenes, oxymercuration–demercuration reactions, and hydroboration-oxidation reactions.
Oxymercuration–demercuration reaction proceeds by Markovnikov’s regioselectivity method.
Markovnikov’s regioselectivity method: The rule states that with the addition of a protic acid HX to an asymmetric alkene, the acid hydrogen (H) gets attached to the carbon with more hydrogen substituents, and the halide (X) group gets attached to the carbon with more alkyl substituents.
