The correct option for the statement “A motor and a generator are”

Answer to Problem 5RAT

The correct option for the statement “A motor and a generator are” is option (a).

Explanation of Solution

A motor is used to change the form of energy by using the principle of production of the magnetic field around a current-carrying conductor. In a motor, the electrical energy which is supplied into the coil induces a magnetic field which further interacts with a permanent magnetic field present inside to produce a rotational effect and hence mechanical energy.

A generator is also used to change the form of energy by using the reverse principle of induction of current due to a time-varying magnetic flux. In a generator, the reverse principle of a motor is applied using the same set of parts.

Hence, motor and generator are similar devices that use the same principles and structure to convert between different forms of energy.

Conclusion:

Therefore, the correct option for the statement “A motor and a generator are” is option (a).
