All the muscles that are present in the human body originate from the various divisions of the embryonic mesoderm layer. During the second month of fetal life, the splanchnic mesoderm and the myotomes are the parts of the mesoderm that can be observed. Somitomeres are the seven myotome-like structures that are observed in the head.
