The volume change for the given steel should be determined and whether the expansion or contraction takes place in steel during quenching should be determined.

Concept Introduction:

Martensitic transformation is the transformation which a diffusion less reaction and takes place in a military manner. The transformation takes place due to the movement of the atom and the atom changes their position in a coordinated way. Martensite is formed in carbon steel by quenching. The martensite reaction begins during cooling and parent martensite becomes unstable.
