The main function of the hand's intrinsic muscles is to assist the extension and flexion of the forearm and make the precise finger movements. These muscles are divided into three categories, the thenar group, the hypothenar group, and the mid palmar group. The muscles of the mid palmar group are located in between the thumb and the middle finger.
