As a body is projected to a high altitude above the earths surface, the variation of the acceleration of gravity with respect to altitude yy must be taken into account. Neglecting air resistance, this acceleration is determined from the formula a=−g0[R2/(R+y)2]a=−g0[R2/(R+y)2], where g0g0 = 9.81 m/s2 m/s 2 is the constant gravitational acceleration at sea level, RR = 6356 kmkm is the radius of the earth, and the positive direction is measured upward.
A 2.0 kg object is acted upon by a spring force characterized by the function F=-6x, (this means k = -6N/m). The speed of the object at x=3.0 m is 8.0 m/s. Determine the positive value for x where the speed of the object will be 4.9 m/s. Hint: The work done between values of x will be 1/2kx22-1/2kx12. Set this equal to the change in kinetic energy associated with the change in speed.
The displacement of a particle is given by s = 5t3 - 70t2 + 105t - 57 where s is in feet and tis in seconds. Plot the displacement,
velocity, and acceleration as functions of time for the first 11 seconds of motion. After you have made the plots, answer the
