Question
Chapter 12.6, Problem 2R
Summary Introduction
To review:
The outcome of plasmid that undergoes integration with the prokaryote’s chromosomal deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).
Introduction:
Plasmid incorporation in the bacterium by conjugation gives a capability to the bacterium, to acquire antibiotic resistance genes, xenobiotics degradation genes, as well as conjugative ability. Sometimes, this plasmid by the virtue of homology between chromosomal and plasmid genes can undergo recombination and integration with the chromosomal DNA of the prokaryote. These molecules when undergoing conjugation with other bacterium leads to transfer of plasmid genes along with chromosomal genes in that recipient bacteria.
