Chapter 13.3, Problem 12BYGO
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
The reflexes are immediate or automatic involuntary action for the response to an external stimulus. The reflex of external stimuli sends the signals through nerves to reach the spinal cord for an immediate action. The reflexes share the four important criteria, such as are quick (involves minimal synaptic delay), involuntary (automatic in nature), stereotyped reactions of muscles (predictable responses), and stimulation (response against sensory input).

Calcium is released from the sarcoplasmic reticulum. Myosin heads bind to actin. An action potential arrives at the axon terminal of a motor neuron. Calcium binds to troponin, displacing tropomyosin and exposing myosin head binding sites on actin. Myosin heads undergo power stroke and actin slides over myosin towards M line of sarcomere.
