Concept explainers
(a)
Interpretation:
The order of increasing chemical shift for the given groups of protons is to be ranked.
Concept introduction:
In NMR spectrum, peaks are known as resonances, lines or absorptions. On the horizontal axis, the position of absorption is generally referred to as chemical shift. The more the shielded proton less will be its chemical shift value and the corresponding signal will be produced at the right-hand side or lower frequency region. The more the deshielded or less shielded proton more will be its chemical shift value and the corresponding signal will be produced at the left-hand side or higher frequency region.

- How do you determine the chemical shifts for the protons shown in red?arrow_forwardThe chemical environment of protons can be deduced from their chemical shifts. What are the relative chemicals shifts of the protons at the labeled positions?arrow_forwardArrange in ascending order of chemical shift (δ) the protons indicated in thestructure below. Fill in the empty boxes with the corresponding letters. b. Explain your choice of the relative order of the chemical shifts of the protons Hc andHD.arrow_forward
- Provide the approximate chemical shift for the protons indicated below. For most of the protons you will have to calculate the chemical shift.arrow_forwardidentify the groups of homotopic protons and from these, the group with the lowest and the group with the highest shift values. Give an estimate for these shift values.arrow_forwardcolorcode/ or number ALL of the homotopic protons of the structure. Then choose which group would have the highest shift value, and which group of H would have the lowest shift valuesarrow_forward
- identify in a drawing the groups of homotopic protons and from these, the group with the lowest and the group with the highest shift values. Give an estimate for these shift values for mentholarrow_forwardCan you help me determine the structure of the compound represented in this spectrum?arrow_forwardWhich underlined proton (or sets of protons) has the greater chemical shift (that is, the higher frequency signal)?arrow_forward
