In a given mixture of gases, each gas contributes its part to the total pressure of this mixture. This contribution is known as partial pressure. It is defined as the pressure of the gas exerted at same temperature and volume by itself. According to Dalton’s law, the total pressure of a given mixture of ideal gases is equal to the sum of the partial pressures of the individual gases.
