Chapter 14, Problem 8RQ
Summary Introduction

Introduction:

The blood brain barrier (BBB) is formed by the endothelial cells that are interconnected to each other by the tight junctions. This junction serves as a barrier against the entry of unwanted molecules inside the membrane of the blood vessels. The lipid membrane is permeable to the small ions like oxygen, carbon dioxide, ammonia, lipids, that can easily move across the bipolar lipid membrane and move into the interstitial fluid. The process of diffusion, active and passive transport moves the ions and water molecules across the membrane.
